Moonfleet

A straggling gang of mischievous buffoons are washed up amongst the flotsam onto the wild shores of Chesil Beach, and conspire to spin this compelling yarn of a young orphan boy clashing with both smugglers and excise men in his quest to find Blackbeard’s cursed diamond and win the hand of his beloved Grace.

"Theatrical invention is everywhere… visually exciting throughout, this production never loses the quality of a life-changing adventure story."

The Stage

Weaving together live music, striking physicality and puppetry, Angel Exit invite you to enter a thrilling world of dastardly deeds and wicked escapades.

Moonfleet toured the UK in 2009 (supported by Arts Council England South West) and in 2010.

Moonfleet toured to 60 venues around the UK including Margate Theatre Royal, Liverpool Unity Theatre, Buxton Opera House, Lighthouse Poole, Darlington Arts Centre, Trinity Theatre Tunbridge Wells, as well as Dorchester Arts, Bridport Arts Centre and Marine Theatre Lyme Regis, and village Halls around Dorset, Devon, Somerset, Scotland and Wales.

Inspired by J.Meade Falkner's classic novel, and local folklore, Moonfleet was a rip-roaring show for everyone with a sense of adventure.

Moonfleet was performed by an ensemble of five performers: Simon Carroll Jones, Henry Douthwaite, Tamsin Fessey, Lynne Forbes, James Mitchell (2009) and Kai Simmons (2010). Moonfleet was designed by Jodie Gardener, Matt Llewellyn Smith made the set and toured as stage manager and the music was composed and created by Tom Ball.

Moonfleet was a co-production with Dorchester Arts Centre and was supported by Arts Council England South West, West Dorset Leisure Fund and Dorset County Council.

"The whole play was so visually exciting that one little girl near me didn't know whether to hide her face in her mother's skirt or watch. She was enthralled."
